What does impeccable taste mean?

Impeccable taste is strong praise for someone’s choices or judgment, often in clothes, art, music or design. For example, “Her impeccable taste transformed the small room” praises the way she selected and arranged its furnishings.

Taste involves personal judgment. The compliment communicates the speaker’s high opinion; it does not mean everyone must like exactly the same things.

Impeccable in a sentence

  • His impeccable manners made the new guests feel welcome.
  • The restaurant provided impeccable service throughout the evening.
  • The musician’s impeccable timing kept the ensemble together.
  • Her impeccable spelling left the proofreader with no corrections to make.

Notice the specific noun in each example. “Impeccable timing” tells us which part of a performance the speaker admires, while “It was impeccable” depends more on context.

Impeccable, impeccably and spelling

Impeccable is the adjective: “an impeccable presentation.” Impeccably is the adverb: “The presentation was impeccably organised.” Impeccability is a related noun for faultlessness, though simpler wording is often clearer.

Spell the adjective i-m-p-e-c-c-a-b-l-e, with two cs. In standard English, “impecable” with one c is a misspelling.

To make the adverb, replace the final -le with -ly: impeccable → impeccably. Say im-PEK-uh-buhl, with the strongest stress on PEK.

Impeccable, perfect, flawless and immaculate

Perfect and flawless overlap with impeccable. There is no fixed scale on which impeccable always means “more perfect” than those words. Natural word combinations and the context matter.

Immaculate often describes complete cleanliness or neatness, though its meanings also overlap. “An immaculate kitchen” commonly focuses on cleanliness; “impeccable service” focuses on the standard of the service.

Words such as faulty, flawed or careless may provide a contrast, depending on what you describe. The Latin history of impeccable connects it with being free from sin; the common modern sense concerns faultlessness more generally.

For your own example, pair the adjective with a precise noun and explain the compliment. This makes the sentence more useful than a string of words meaning “very good.”
