Daily Conversation – Ordering Coffee
Practise a polite coffee order. Read the conversation, then answer the two questions without looking back.
The conversation
Customer: Hello. Could I have a medium coffee, please?
Barista: Of course. Would you like milk or sugar?
Customer: A little milk, please, but no sugar.
Barista: Is that to drink here or to take away?
Customer: To take away, please. I am on my way to work.
Try the questions
1. What size coffee does the customer order?
2. Does the customer want sugar?
Check the answers
- A medium coffee.
- No. The customer asks for a little milk but no sugar.
Make it your own
Read both roles aloud. Then change the drink, its size, or whether you want milk or sugar, and practise the conversation again.
Practise and review
- Read the task before starting. Listen if a recording is available, or use the written conversation.
- Answer the questions aloud or in your notebook. Replay or reread the part you need.
- Check any answers supplied in the activity, then repeat a useful phrase in a sentence of your own.
